Onta ware has been crafted for over 300 years in the Sarayama district, nestled in the mountains of Hita City, Oita Prefecture. Today, just nine pottery kilns continue to preserve the traditional production methods passed down since its inception.

Once acclaimed as "the world's finest folk pottery" by Soetsu Yanagi, Onta ware consists of practical everyday wares designed for daily living rather than mere display. Its rustic texture, conveying the natural warmth of clay, along with its regular geometric patterns, complements a wide variety of dishes—from Japanese to Western cuisine—making it a valued piece for long-term daily use.
