[Black and White Salad Bowl]

The "Black & White Bowl" from Ceramic Japan is a recent addition to my kitchen. It is part of the "Black & White Tableware Series" designed in 1982 by Sori Yanagi, one of Japan's leading industrial designers. Featuring a square shape with rounded corners, this vessel has a simple, timeless form created with everyday life in mind. Coated in matte black and white glazes that complement its soft lines, its production and sale began in 2023 as an original product of Ceramic Japan.

In my home, this Black & White Bowl frequently makes an appearance on the dining table as a "salad bowl." Compared to a round dish of the same diameter, the corners provide a larger volume, which is a delightful feature as it allows for a slightly larger portion of vegetables. During this season, I often buy reasonably priced lettuce and enjoy making homemade dressings. Crisp lettuce pairs beautifully with a slightly richer dressing, so today I made one using yogurt and mayonnaise from the refrigerator as a base. The sharp flavor of freshly grated raw garlic also helps stimulate the appetite.

Even without squeezing lemons or other citrus fruits, Azmaya's Juicer has become my go-to container just for serving dressing, and it is the perfect size for two people. It would be lovely to use them differently depending on the ingredients, such as serving a vibrant green salad in the white bowl and white ingredients like a tofu salad in the black bowl. Gathering your favorite vessels and tools might make daily salad preparation a little more enjoyable.

Yogurt and Mayonnaise Dressing (Serves 2-3)

Ingredients:
Mayonnaise 1 1/2 tbsp
Plain yogurt 1 tbsp
Light soy sauce 1 tsp
Honey 1/3 tsp
Garlic (grated) 1 clove
Salt a pinch
Sesame oil a small amount to taste

Instructions:
1. Place the mayonnaise, yogurt, light soy sauce, honey, garlic, and salt into a bowl.
2. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes a smooth, creamy consistency.
3. Add sesame oil at the end if desired, and stir quickly.
