[Luxurious Onigiri]

I love onigiri. If someone asked me, “If the world were to end tomorrow, what would you want to eat for your last meal?” I would answer without hesitation, “Onigiri made with delicious rice and salt.”

There are many other things I like and foods I think are delicious, but when it comes to my last meal, onigiri is my only choice. I love simple onigiri made with warm rice, a little extra salt, and gently pressed into shape.

Such is the simplicity of the “salted onigiri,” but when I want to indulge in a little luxury, I sometimes think “tenmusu” is a good option.

This is because there's a local udon restaurant famous for its tenmusu, and I recently had the chance to take out some tenmusu for the first time in a while. The slightly smaller onigiri is topped with a perfectly sized shrimp tempura, and I could eat them endlessly. The satisfying feeling of being fully satisfied after taking a bite. Whether fresh or cold, the perfect balance of salt and the way it's made makes it delicious. It's so tasty that just eating it makes me happy.

However, while I make salted onigiri myself, I never make tenmusu at home. Maybe it's because I have someone else fry and make the tenmusu for me that it feels so special, combining the luxury of the tempura filling with that sense of indulgence.

In any case, for me, onigiri is undoubtedly the ultimate power food.
