[Seiryugama's Kumidashi Is Back in Stock]
Originally used in tea gatherings and for serving guests, kumidashi is a small vessel traditionally meant for enjoying tea. Today, it is equally suited for coffee, wine, or any beverage of your choice. It also works beautifully as a small side dish bowl.
The glaze known as “Zansetsu,” now synonymous with Seiryugama, evokes the image of a snow-covered mountain at the turn of spring. Its soft, cool-toned white brings out the pure color of yogurt beautifully. A simple drizzle of honey is our favorite way to serve it, but in the heat of summer, topping it with small pieces of frozen fruit adds a refreshing, chilled touch to your table.
These pieces are made by Seiryugama, a kiln of Hirashimizu ware that originated during the Bunka era (1804–1818) at the foot of Mt. Chitose, a pine-covered mountain southeast of Yamagata City. Using local clay and traditional wheel-throwing techniques, Seiryugama continues to craft timeless pieces that honor tradition while embracing modern life.
