[Good Design Marunouchi]

Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue. This beautiful avenue, with its beautiful trees, is an office district not far from Ginza, and is lined with commercial facilities such as street stores, boutique stores, restaurants, and cafes. Today, we would like to introduce “Good Design Marunouchi” located in one corner of the avenue.

Organized and operated by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, it is a communication platform that connects design and people, design and society. It was created in the hope that it will be a space where people can think and practice together how design can be used to address various issues around them and in society as a whole, through exhibitions and workshops in which people can easily participate.

This year's exhibition, the fourth in the series, was selected from among a record number of entries. The deciding factor was the approach of finding design in “rice,” the most familiar food to Japanese people. While rice has a widespread image of happiness in daily life, it is also becoming less appreciated than in the past due to dieting and diversification of meals, as well as the social background of food self-sufficiency. The exhibition is filled with content that attempts to highlight the power of “rice” to appeal to various perceptions. This exhibition aims to deepen the joy of people of various generations, backgrounds, and thoughts who gather here to discover rice for themselves, and to realize the presence of design in rice. Rice is a common food in our daily lives, but in reality it is also a food that is in the midst of a continuing price hike, and I found it very interesting to see it displayed in this way.

In the exhibition, utensils for eating rice also appeared. We have a large selection of carefully selected items that show the handiwork of artisans, from rice bowls to rice pots, earthenware pots, pot holders, rice pans, rice ladle, chopsticks, chopstick rests, and rice spoon, etc. Many of our products have received the Good Design Award, so please find your favorite item and enjoy it at the table with rice.
