This morning, when it was a little chilly, I was in the mood for warm “an” buttered toast. Just spread a thin layer of boiled azuki beans from the packet on the toast, put a small piece of butter on the surface of the an (sweet bean paste) and toast it in the toaster. The reason for the small amount of red bean paste was that it’s very sweet, but when I found it wasn’t enough, I added “oi-an and oi-butter” (extra an and extra butter). The combination of the sweetness of the azuki beans and the saltiness of the butter is irresistible. It also pairs wonderfully with coffee. If you’re craving something sweet in the morning, give it a try!
