[Naruto No Hanmi-Age]
“Naruto no hanmi-age” is one of the most popular Otaru gourmet dishes. When we visited the main restaurant on a previous business trip, there was already a line of people waiting before noon.
Since its establishment in 1965, the restaurant has been loved by local people, especially for its signature dish, a fried half chicken. The skin is crispy and the inside is juicy, with just the right amount of salt and crispiness to make even the seemingly large fried half chicken so delicious that we can be finished in the blink of an eye.
And in Otaru, Christmas is the time to eat Naruto no hanmi-age. It is said that for many families, the hearty fried half chicken is a staple at the Christmas table. It is a rare case in Japan that a local delicacy that has been loved by the locals is so well accepted by the community that it has become an event food in the home.
If you visit Otaru during the Christmas season, be sure to try Naruto no hanmi-age and feel Otaru's Christmas. Our Otaru Showroom is a short 13-minute walk from the “Wakadori Jidai Naruto Honten.”
