[Okai Mafu Shoten's Yamato Chakin has been added]

Chakin is a white linen cloth used to wipe and clean the tea bowl during the tea ceremony. Sen no Rikyu, the master of the Wabicha style of tea ceremony, valued the chakin so highly that he said that tea could be served only with a white, fresh chakin.

The Yamato Chakin of Okai Mafu Shoten, a weaver of Nara Sarashi, is a top quality product hand-woven in the village of Tawara, using threads hand-spun in eastern Nara Prefecture from hemp (refined hemp) produced in Tochigi Prefecture. Both ends of the cloth are carefully sewn by hand in two different directions so that either side can be used as the front.
