The term "flea market" comes from the French phrase "marché aux puces." The word "puces" means "flea."

There are many flea markets in Kyoto that are held monthly. In Okazaki Park in front of Heian Jingu Shrine, the Heian Flea Market is held around the 10th of every month. More than 100 stores line both sides of the road and in the square, and not only old tool stores and antique stores from Kyoto city but also stores dealing with old things from all over Japan gather here.

A wide range of age groups have opened stores, and the selection of goods is rich in individuality, including antique tools, Western antiques, and Showa retro sundries. Located right in front of Heian Jingu Shrine, it is a spacious place to enjoy the flea market.

You will encounter a variety of things, from things you have been looking for to unexpected bargains.
