There are many types of tea such as matcha and green tea. Among them, hojicha is a type of tea made by roasting tea leaves such as sencha and bancha.

Hojicha has a relaxing, aromatic tea aroma and a refreshing aftertaste that makes it easy to drink. In fact, theanine, an ingredient in hojicha, is said to relax the brain, and is expected to improve sleep and reduce fatigue upon waking. And when the body is in a relaxed state, the blood vessels dilate and blood flow improves, which warms the body and relieves body chills. This is why hojicha is a highly effective drink for warming up the body, especially during winter seasons.

Hojicha has less bitterness and astringency than black tea or coffee because the caffeine is removed in the high temperature roasting process and the tannin, the bitter component of tea, is reduced. Therefore, it is safe to drink for everyone from babies to the elderly and pregnant women. At home, try Nambu Bunshudo's Iron Teapot which has excellent heat retention properties when making hojicha to keep you warm in the cold winter.

In addition, roasted teas such as hojicha, unlike green tea, do not change color or flavor as much when carried around in a water bottle, since the tea leaves are highly cooked, and thus, less likely to deteriorate and oxidize. Why not bring a cup of hojicha with you when you go out on a cold day with the beautiful wooden New Bottle by Mokuneji that keeps the handle from getting hot even when pouring hot coffee or tea?

Horikawa burdock is one of the traditional vegetables of Kyoto, and its cultivation method has a history of about 400 years.

It grows to around 50 cm in length and 6 to 9 cm in diameter, with a hollow center that is used to make stuffed dishes such as shrimp paste and minced chicken. It also has different flavors depending on where it is eaten. The thick part of the body has soft flesh, and the thin part at the tip can be fried quickly and used as kinpira for its unique aroma. It is also characterized by its soft fiber, which makes it easy for the flavor to soak into the inside.

Horikawa burdock takes more than two years before it can be harvested, and it is a low-humidity-tolerant vegetable, so it is necessary to keep the rows high and the soil well-drained. Although it takes a lot of time and effort, the quality is very good and it contains more vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and other nutrients than ordinary burdock.

In addition to being cooked as a stew with stuffing inside, it is also tender and delicious when sliced into rounds and simmered in sweet and spicy sauce with sugar and soy sauce. Burdock chips, sliced diagonally into thin rounds and deep fried, are also excellent!

The term "flea market" comes from the French phrase "marché aux puces." The word "puces" means "flea."

There are many flea markets in Kyoto that are held monthly. In Okazaki Park in front of Heian Jingu Shrine, the Heian Flea Market is held around the 10th of every month. More than 100 stores line both sides of the road and in the square, and not only old tool stores and antique stores from Kyoto city but also stores dealing with old things from all over Japan gather here.

A wide range of age groups have opened stores, and the selection of goods is rich in individuality, including antique tools, Western antiques, and Showa retro sundries. Located right in front of Heian Jingu Shrine, it is a spacious place to enjoy the flea market.

You will encounter a variety of things, from things you have been looking for to unexpected bargains.
